In this paper we look to describe the methodology behind the construction of the DDI and to validate the results therein. We developed a Social Deprivation Index (SDI) to quantify levels of disadvantage across small areas, evaluate their associations with health outcomes, and address health inequities.
This measure of social deprivation, in combination with other indicators, has potential application in identifying areas that need additional health care resources.
Measures of Social Deprivation. Variables of social deprivation were selected on the basis of literature review and international examples.
